On May 15th, 2018 I had a skin check with my nurse practitioner Katie Novotny. She suspected I had basal cell carcinoma in the conchal bowl in my right ear. As a teenager I was out in the sun a lot as I caddied at Lakewood Country Club in Westlake to earn money to pay for my tuition at St. Ignatius High School. Who knew years later all that sun exposure would evolve in to bcc in my right ear. No one ever thinks of putting sun screen inside their ears. Katie took a biopsy and it was revealed that I did indeed have bcc. I was then scheduled for Mohs surgery on Wednesday June 6th, 2018. Katie is a great nurse practitioner. I’ve been a patient of hers for over eight years. She is very kind and compassionate and is very responsive to any skin cancer concerns I may have, I highly recommend Katie. She’s the best dermatology CNP in Lake County as far as I am concerned.
