Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are a good choice if you have an indented acne scar. Fillers work by plumping up the skin, making the scar less noticeable. You may require a few treatments, particularly if your scar is very deep. Fillers must usually be reinjected every few years.

Microdermabrasion

During microdermabrasion treatment, your Cleveland dermatologist uses a handheld device that uses a fine spray of micro crystals to remove the top layers of your skin. Microdermabrasion can be very effective in improving the appearance of shallow scars. You won’t need anesthetic for the procedure and will see results in about 24 hours.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion removes more layers of your skin than microdermabrasion. Skin is removed with a diamond wheel or wire brush. Anesthetic is required for this procedure, and you’ll need to take over-the-counter pain relievers for a few days. In about a week, you’ll see an improvement in your scar.

Chemical peels

Chemical peels are also effective in removing scars in the top layers of the skin. You’ll be given an anesthetic before treatment and will use pain relievers for a few days post treatment.

Punch excision

Punch excision is used to treat deep ice pick scars. Your dermatologist makes an incision in your skin, removes the scar and places a skin graft over the area. The procedure leaves behind its own scar, but that scar will be much less noticeable than the original scar.

Laser treatment

Laser treatment improves the appearance of acne scars by stimulating collagen production and breaking up and softening scar tissue. Pain during and after the treatment is usually minimal, although the area may be red for a few days after treatment.

Acne scars tend to fade with time, but if it’s been a year or more since your last breakout, and your scars are still very noticeable, dermatology treatments offer an excellent way to improve the appearance of your skin. Microneedling

Microneedling effectively addresses acne scarring by stimulating collagen production through controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This process helps to remodel scar tissue, resulting in smoother and less noticeable scars over time. Additionally, microneedling enhances the absorption of topical treatments, maximizing the overall improvement in skin texture and tone.
